Junior Hunt Program

The Junior Hunt Program prepares your pup for the challenges presented to it when trying to receive the AKC Junior Hunt title. The title requires your pup to pass 4 different "legs" at 4 different hunt tests. These hunt tests are held in a variety of different cities and states over most weekends. We will train your pup in the necessary skills so that they can pass these tests. We also offer a Hunt Test service where we will bring your pup with us when we go to the various hunt tests and get it Junior AKC titled. Contact us for information on this or any other service.

The following commands/skills will be taught to your dog:

  • Drop - The pup will drop the object it is holding in it's mouth.
  • Hold - The pup will hold an object in it's mouth until you take hold of the object or tell it to "Drop".
  • Delivery to Hand - The pup will deliver the object it's carrying to your hand.
  • Retrieve - The pup will be taught to pick up single retrieves in both land and water.
  • Birdied - The pup will be introduced to a multitude of birds so that it is familiar with the different scents and makeups of said birds.

Requirements

At Duck Buster Kennels we believe that most dogs are able to learn and understand the obedience that we will teach it. Therefore, some requirements are necessary to ensure that any dog we take for hunt training is ready for it.

  • A willingness to learn is essential.
  • The dog must be old enough to understand the commands/skills it is to be taught.
  • The owner must be willing to enforce the commands/skills and continue training the dog.
